Events will be organized by a wide range of organizations, including the UN Global Compact; UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes; Global Compact Local Networks; and other selected partners – with over 100 sessions expected across all themes. Business participants and representatives from other stakeholder groups, including civil society and labour organizations, business associations, academic institutions, governments and United Nations entities, will be invited by the Global Compact Office directly. Forum invitations will be sent by the UN Global Compact and partners beginning in January 2012. Please note that registration will be confirmed by the Global Compact Office on a first-come, first-served basis. Hotel information is only available for participants who have completed registration. Participants are strongly encouraged to secure hotel accommodation as early as possible in order to benefit from discounted rates and conditions, and due to overwhelming demand during the Rio+20 period.How do I obtain a visa?During the online registration for the Forum, participants will be prompted to check a box indicating whether they will need to apply for a travel visa to Brazil. Participants requiring a visa will subsequently receive via email a letter of support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Brazil once their Forum registration is completed. The letter should be submitted along with other documentation when applying for a visa. Participants are required to complete the visa application process and must visit the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website and select “Visa Request”. Please carefully read the directions on the website, as they provide detailed information about completing the form and the original documentation (including the letter of support from UNDP) that must be submitted to the Brazilian consulate in-person. Please note that passports must be valid for at least 90 days after the planned date of travel to Brazil.What is the Compact 4 Rio? How does this session relate to the Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum and the inter-governmental session of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20)? Compact 4 Rio will convene chief executives from the around the world as well as leaders from government, civil society and the United Nations to discuss and identify strategies for a new era of global sustainability. This high-level closing session will distil the outcomes of the four-day Corporate Sustainability Forum, which includes dozens of sessions held in parallel on Rio+20 themes: Energy & Climate, Water & Ecosystems, Agriculture & Food, Social Development, Urbanization & Cities, and Economics & Finance. Compact 4 Rio will identify the most promising business actions and commitments across Forum themes, and will put forward policy recommendations to governments to support corporate sustainability and public-private collaboration globally. In thematic roundtable discussions, leaders will be able to debate sustainability practices, partnerships and policies with peers.Who can participate in the Compact 4 Rio? All those registered for the Corporate Sustainability Forum are invited to attend the Compact 4 Rio. Given the emphasis on interactive dialogue through roundtable discussions, pre-registration is required and seating arrangements will be made according to relevant protocols.
